My goal in every tutoring session is to help you make meaningful progress and leave feeling more confident in your math skills. A little preparation goes a long way in making our time together as productive as possible. Here are a few recommendations to help you get the most out of your session.
Come With Specific Questions (When Possible)
The more specific your questions are, the more targeted and effective our session can be. For example, instead of “I don’t understand this chapter,” try “I’m struggling with solving systems using substitution.”If you’re not sure how to phrase your questions, that’s okay—we can work through that together.
Bring an Assignment or Practice Problems
Having homework, a worksheet, or practice problems to work on gives us something concrete to focus on. This helps ensure that what we cover directly supports your class and upcoming assessments.
Have a List of Topics You Want to Cover
If you know which topics are giving you trouble, bringing a short list can help us stay organized and use our time efficiently. If you’re unsure, your teacher or professor can often provide guidance on which concepts are most important to review.
Be Ready When the Session Starts
To minimize downtime and maximize learning:
Open any relevant websites, online homework systems, or textbooks before the session begins.
Have pencil and paper ready for working through problems.
Have a calculator and any other required materials nearby.
Don’t Worry If You’re Not Fully Prepared
These recommendations are meant to help—not to create pressure. If you’re feeling lost, overwhelmed, or unsure where to start, that’s exactly what tutoring is for. I’m happy to help you identify problem areas, organize topics, and build a plan that works for you.
With the right preparation and support, online tutoring can be just as effective as in-person sessions. I’m here to meet you where you are and help you move forward with confidence.
